Remember when Kia Philippines Managing Director Jay Lopez announced at the 10th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) that they would bring the EV3 and PV5 electric vehicles (EVs) before the end of 2026?

We already noticed that the EV3 has been listed by the Department of Energy (DOE) and could be offered in GL and GS variants. Kia has yet to reveal when they plan to launch the EV3 in the Philippines. But before we can find out more about the EV3, the DOE has updated its list of recognized EVs and has added the Kia PV5.

That's right, the Korean automaker's all-electric van has just appeared on the agency's website, and it looks like it will be offered initially as a commercial vehicle. Based on the DOE's listing, the PV5 Cargo Long Standard Range will be the first model of the all-electric van. It measures 4695mm long, 1895mm wide, and 1899mm tall on a 2995mm wheelbase. It also has a minimum ground clearance of 143mm and front & rear overhangs of 770mm and 930mm, respectively.

The PV5 Cargo's initial specifications were also attached to the DOE listing, and it will get a single front electric motor that puts out 163 PS and 250 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, a 51.5 kWh battery pack powers the electric motor and gives it a range of up to 384 km, based on the NEDC cycle. When it comes to payload capacities, it can carry up to 790 kg and has a braked towing capacity of up to 750 kg.

Since it's the cargo van version, this particular PV5 will only have seating for two: the driver and the front passenger. However, it will still have some niceties available, including a digital instrument panel, a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity features, automatic climate control, and even leather upholstery on certain variants.

With its rear barn-style doors, flat floor configuration, and dual sliding doors on the side, the Kia PV5 may attract customers and logistics companies who want a zero-emissions workhorse that's also easy to maintain and light on the energy bills. The only question now is: when can we expect Kia Philippines to launch the PV5 and the EV3?
