Back in 2025, Geely Philippines announced that the Monjaro PHEV would join the local lineup in the country. However, we're already into Q3 2026, and there seem to be no signs yet of the plug-in hybrid Monjaro joining the Philippine lineup. Yes, we already have the EX5 EM-i PHEV and the EX2 EV, but the full-size flagship crossover SUV has yet to make its presence felt.

Fortunately, it looks like we can expect the electrified Monjaro to make its debut perhaps later this year. Recently, the Department of Energy (DOE) updated its list of recognized plug-in hybrids and added the Geely Monjaro EM-i. It's listed as a 2027 model year vehicle and is perhaps Geely's biggest vehicle yet, as it measures 4800mm long, 1895mm wide, and 1700mm tall on a 2845mm wheelbase. It also has a ground clearance of 189mm and a minimum turning radius of 5.9 meters.

Based on initial specifications, the Geely Monjaro EM-i has a 1499cc (or 1.5L) turbocharged engine that makes 106 kW (or 144 PS) with 230 Nm of torque and is assisted by an electric motor that produces 200 kW (or 272 PS) and 493 Nm of torque. The motor then gets its power from a 29.8 kWh battery pack, while a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) sends power to the wheels.

All of these give the Geely Monjaro EM-i a combined system output of 306 kW or 416 PS and 723 Nm of torque. On just battery power alone, Geely says the Monjaro EM-i can do up to 130 km, based on the NEDC cycle. Meanwhile, its combined range is rated to cover up to 1,095 km.

When it comes to charging the battery, Geely says the Monjaro EM-i supports both AC 6.6 kW and DC 78 kW charging. The former can recharge the vehicle from 20% to 100% in just over 4 hours, while the latter can replenish the vehicle's energy from 30% to 80% in only 15 minutes. Beyond that, the Monjaro also comes with vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) functions that are both capped at 6 kW.

With Geely's flagship crossover SUV already getting PHEV recognition from the DOE, perhaps Geely Philippines is set to introduce the Monjaro EM-i later this year before 2026 ends. With that, the BYD Tang DM-i may want to watch its back soon.
