When it comes to plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), and electric vehicles (EVs), Chinese automakers are at the forefront. Whether it's hatchbacks, crossover SUVs, MPVs, or full-size frame-based SUVs, Chinese automakers have all kinds of electrified vehicles that provide some sort of zero-emissions mobility.

They also have hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), but they are not as popular as EREVs, PHEVs, and EVs. However, some brands like Geely have started to branch out to make HEVs available on their existing models.

With the Chinese government set to gradually phase out subsidies on certain PHEVs and EVs, automakers are now starting to introduce HEV models that still offer value for money without kicking up the price. One of those vehicles is the Geely Monjaro i-HEV, which was recently launched in the PRC.

Also called the Geely Xingyue L, the Monjaro i-HEV is powered by the brand's new i-HEV powertrain. It has a 1.5L turbocharged engine that Geely claims has a thermal efficiency of 48.4% and makes 163 PS. It is then assisted by two electric motors: one is placed on the engine crankshaft, while the other is connected to the wheels. The result is a combined 238 PS, which is sent to the front wheels via a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).

Thanks to a small battery pack, Geely says the Monjaro i-HEV can travel on electric power at speeds of up to 66 km/h. It can also achieve an impressive 4.75 liters per 100 km, based on the WLTC cycle, which translates to an average fuel consumption of 21 km/L, which is not bad for a midsize crossover SUV.

Style-wise, the Monjaro i-HEV looks no different from the ICE and the EM-P (AKA PHEV) variants. It gets the same massive grille, distinct LED headlights & daytime running lights, a beltline that runs across the entire length of the vehicle, and wraparound LED taillights. However, the Monjaro i-HEV comes with aerodynamic alloy wheels to help it have better energy efficiency.

When it comes to amenities, the Geely Monjaro i-HEV has plenty on offer. These include a 50W wireless charging pad, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, two 14.6-inch touchscreens for the infotainment system (one for the front passenger), a 25.6-inch heads-up display, ambient lighting, full leather upholstery, a power sunroof, and ventilated seats that also come with a massage function.

With the Geely Monjaro i-HEV now available in the PRC, we're curious if Geely Motor Philippines Corporation plans to bring this or the PHEV variant to the country soon.
