XPeng is making its final steps before entering the Philippine market. And now, the Chinese smart EV maker has given us a closer look at one of its newest models in China.

Making its world premiere is the XPeng G9L - a large five-seat SUV that is positioned as its new flagship offering. It combines a spacious cabin, high-end materials, advanced technology, and two choices of electrified drive with both offering long driving range.

The G9L carries the latest design direction of XPeng under its global design team, with JuanMa López playing a key role. López, who previously served as Head of Exterior Design at Ferrari, is now XPeng's vice president of its Styling Design Center.

The G9L follows a clean and aerodynamic design language, with a long wheelbase, flush door handles, slim lighting elements, and a bulky rear end that gives the large SUV a more sophisticated appearance. It comes with three wheel options ranging from 20-inches to 22 inches. At 5,120 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,782 mm tall with a 3,100-mm wheelbase, the G9L is a sizeable SUV.

Inside, XPeng has equipped the G9L with the kind of technology expected from a flagship model. The SUV features an advanced intelligent cockpit, zero gravity seats, large displays, AI-powered functions, and XPeng's latest intelligent-driving technology. The company has also emphasized the vehicle's material quality and overall refinement, with the G9L engineered to compete in the premium SUV space rather than simply being another mainstream electric crossover.

Powering the G9L is a choice of battery-electric and range-extended electric powertrains. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive EV version produces up to 430 kW, or roughly 577 PS, while its 800-volt architecture allows it to add as much as 450 km of driving range in just nine minutes under XPeng's claimed charging conditions.

Depending on the battery and configuration, the battery-electric G9L can deliver up to 805 km of CLTC-rated range, while the EREV version uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine as a generator that charges the 63.3 kWh battery, offering up to 435 km of electric-only range under CLTC conditions, and up to 1602 km of overall combined range.

Its technology package is built around XPeng's latest Turing AI computing hardware and VLA 2.0 intelligent-driving system.

For now, however, XPeng is yet to confirm if we will actually get to see the G9L on our local roads. The PH operation is expected to initially focus on two models – the X9 and L03 - when the brand officially enters the Philippine market later this year.
