Next-gen VinFast VF 8 has been recognized by the DOE
All-new VinFast VF 8 is now on the DOE's list of recognized EVs
Earlier this year, VinFast pulled a surprise when they revealed the all-new VF 8. Now in its second generation, the all-electric midsize crossover SUV features a sleeker and sportier appearance via the brand's new Tech Fluid design language. In addition, the VF 8 gets a new electric motor and battery pack that VinFast says will allow the all-new EV to cover up to 500 km on a full charge.
Three months after the next-generation VF 8 was revealed, the Department of Energy (DOE) has officially recognized VinFast's latest EV. Based on the agency's listing, the VinFast VF8 has a battery capacity of 61.36 kWh (usable is 60.13 kWh) and a maximum electric power of 170 kW or 231 PS. In addition, the VF 8 is listed as a 2026 model year vehicle.

Additional specifications of the VF 8 were also mentioned in an attached document on the DOE website. For starters, the VF 8 measures 4701mm long, 1872mm wide, and 1670mm tall on a 2840mm wheelbase. Meanwhile, a single electric motor drives the front wheels and makes 231 PS with 330 Nm of torque. On a full charge, VinFast says the VF 8 can cover up to 500 km on the NEDC cycle, thanks to a 60.13 kWh battery pack.
When it comes to recharging the VF 8, VinFast says it can be recharged from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes when connected to a CCS2 100 kW DC charger. The VF 8 also supports 7.2 kW Type 2 AC charging.

When it comes to amenities, the VF 8 is available with the following: a power-adjustable driver's seat, a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment display, USB Type-C charging ports that support 60W, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, a wireless charging pad, an electronic column shifter, and a digital instrument cluster.
Since the all-new VinFast VF8 is already on the DOE's list of recognized EVs, perhaps we can expect an official launch to happen later this year.
