BMW engineers are constantly hard at work, whether fine-tuning a mid-cycle refresh, testing a next-gen architecture, or pushing an all-new model to its absolute limits. Prototype test mules are a common sight across the globe, but seeing the German brand’s largest flagship carving up the Nürburgring Nordschleife always commands attention.

Development of the next-generation BMW X7, internally codenamed G67, is currently underway. While spy photographers briefly caught an early prototype featuring production-ready lighting and minimal disguise, the test vehicles currently lapping the Green Hell have reverted to heavier camouflage and less-finished body panels. Even so, the latest imagery reveals plenty about where BMW’s high-riding flagship is headed.

Neue Klasse Inspiration and High-End Luxury

The next-gen X7 will retain its familiar, imposing road presence, but it adopts a cleaner, more futuristic aesthetic borrowed from BMW’s "Neue Klasse" design language. The most dramatic evolution takes place inside the cabin, where the G67 transitions into a true rolling lounge.

Expect BMW to push its flagship further upmarket with high-end convenience and passenger features. The new interior is slated to integrate the brand's latest Panoramic iDrive interface, along with optional luxury amenities like power-operated automatic doors, heated and ventilated rear captain's chairs, and BMW’s massive 31.3-inch rear theater screen.

Modern exterior personalizations, including bespoke two-tone paint options, are also expected to make the options list to challenge ultra-luxury rivals.

The V8 Lives On

Enthusiasts worried about the total demise of big-displacement powertrains can breathe a sigh of relief. The performance-focused X7 M60 variant is expected to retain a twin-turbocharged V8 engine, delivering the effortless, deep-chested power required to move a full-size three-row SUV with intent.

The next-generation BMW X7 G67 is scheduled for an official global reveal in 2027, bridging the gap between raw combustion power and ultra-modern digital tech.
