MG4X revealed as compact EV crossover with up to 610 km of range

MG4X revealed as compact EV crossover with up to 610 km of range
MG expands electric crossover lineup with MG4X
MG is putting out all the stops when it comes to electric vehicles (EVs). In fact, MG Motor Philippines plans to launch the all-new MG4 (together with the RX9 and HS PHEVs) at this year's Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) tomorrow.
Over in China, however, the automaker has revealed the crossover SUV version of the MG4 called the MG4X. Featuring an almost similar look to the MG4 hatchback, the MG4X features a closed-off grille, stylish LED headlights, horizontal daytime running lights, distinct 18-inch alloy wheels, and full-width LED taillights.

Size-wise, the MG4X is 4500mm long, 1849mm wide, and 1621mm tall on a 2735mm wheelbase. It also has generous ground clearance, although MG has yet to reveal its exact figures. It also has a curb weight of up to 1710 kg and a luggage capacity of 463 liters with the rear seats deployed and up to 1,423 liters with the rear seats folded.
At the heart of the MG4X are two battery options: a 53.9 kWh semi-solid manganese-based lithium-ion battery pack from SAIC-Qingtao and a bigger 64.2 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery from CATL. On a full charge, the former has a maximum range of up to 510 km, while the latter is rated to have a range of up to 610 km, both based on the CLTC cycle. When converted to WLTP standards, the MG4X has a range between 418 and 500 km, respectively.

All variants come with a single electric motor that drives the rear wheels, with the entry-level and mid-grade variants producing 125 kW or 170 PS with 250 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line model gets a more powerful motor that generates 204 PS and 350 Nm of torque. Like most EVs, the MG4X supports both AC and DC fast charging, with the latter capable of recharging the battery as quickly as 16 minutes (25 minutes for lesser variants).
Hop inside, and the MG4X welcomes occupants into a stylish yet minimalist cabin. The driver gets a two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel and a 10.25-inch digital cluster. Meanwhile, the center dashboard features a 15.6-inch touchscreen with wireless connectivity features, while a power sunroof lets more light into the cabin.

Other available amenities are 256-color ambient lighting, 60:40 split rear seats, perforated leather seats, power-adjustable ventilated front seats with memory function, automatic climate control, an 8-speaker sound system, a 50W wireless charging pad, USB charging ports, a power tailgate, and a 360-degree camera system.

With the MG4X now available in China, we're wondering if MG Motor Philippines has any plans to bring it here. However, with the MG S5 already receiving DOE recognition as a compact electric crossover, it might be redundant for MG to bring the MG4X. For now, all we can do is wait and perhaps check out what MG has in store soon.
