MG Motor Philippines has officially launched its electric compact crossover fighter. After giving us a preview last month, the automaker has revealed the S5 EV at the Trinoma Activity Center.

Revealed at the MG Energy Tour 2026, the MG S5 is set to take on the likes of the BYD Atto 3, Chevrolet Captiva EV, GAC Aion V, and the Geely EX5.

Starting with its hardware, the S5 is powered by a 49 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, which gives it a range of up to 415 km. The battery then powers a single rear electric motor that puts out 170 PS and 250 Nm of torque. It has several drive modes available, including Eco, Normal, Sport, and Custom. It also has regenerative braking, which comes with several modes like low, medium, high, and adaptive.

The S5 EV supports 7 kW Type 2 AC charging, as well as 120 kW CCS2 DC charging. When hooked up to the former, the S5 EV can be recharged from 10% to 100% in around 8.5 hours. Meanwhile, the latter can replenish the S5's battery from 30% to 80% in just 24 minutes. A vehicle-to-load (V2L) function comes as standard and can power up devices or appliances during a blackout.

When it comes to dimensions, the MG S5 measures 4476mm long, 1849mm wide, and 1621mm tall on a 2730mm wheelbase. It also has up to 180mm of ground clearance. With the rear seats deployed, the MG S5 EV has up to 453 liters of luggage space. Fold those down, however, and cargo space goes up to 1,441 liters.

Design-wise, the MG S5 EV features a sleek and aerodynamic exterior. It features a distinct pair of LED headlights, a closed-off grille with a lower air intake, 17-inch black alloy wheels wrapped in 215/60 series tires, full-width wraparound LED taillights, and black body cladding.

Hop inside, and the S5 EV welcomes occupants into a minimalist yet comfortable cabin. The driver is treated to a flat-bottom steering wheel, along with a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel. Also present is a rotary dial gear selector, physical dials for the climate control and media display, a pair of cupholders, and fabric upholstery on the seats.

Speaking of the media display, the MG S5 comes with a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment display that supports wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay. Other available features include a four-speaker sound system, 60:40 split-folding rear seats, keyless smart entry, automatic climate control with rear vents, a 12V power socket, and a host of USB-C and USB-A charging ports.

For extra peace of mind, the S5 is equipped with the brand's advanced driver assist systems (ADAS) called MG Pilot. This gives the electric crossover intelligent driver aids like adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, front collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, intelligent headlight control, rear collision warning, lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and a driver monitoring system.

Other key safety systems include a rear camera, rear parking sensors, a tire pressure monitoring system, speed-sensing door locks, and six airbags.

The MG S5 is yours at a special intro price of PHP 1,408,888 for a limited time. To sweeten the deal, those who will reserve and get a unit this weekend at Trinoma can get the S5 EV at PHP 1,398,888, along with PHP 30,000 worth of charging equipment, including a 7 kW wallbox charger and a portable 3.3 kW charger.

Available colors include: Andes Gray, Cosmic Silver, Desert Sand Beige, and Dover White.
