Back in May 2026, we noticed that the Department of Energy (DOE) updated its list of recognized EVs in the country by adding the MG S5. Based on the initial specifications listed by the DOE, it will have a 49.1 kWh battery pack, which will give it a range of up to 415 km on the NEDC cycle. Moreover, it will have a single electric motor producing 170 PS and 250 Nm of torque.

Fast forward to the end of July, the MG S5 has just been homologated by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for the Philippine market. Based on a recently released Memorandum Circular, the MG S5's specifications will reflect the ones that were already released by the DOE earlier this year, back in May.

Starting with the powertrain, it will have a single electric motor that puts out 125 kW or 170 PS. It also has a range of up to 415 km, based on the NEDC standard, thanks to a lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. Size-wise, the S5 measures 4476mm long, 1849mm wide, and 1621mm tall on a 2734mm wheelbase. Last but not least, the S5 will have 17-inch alloy wheels with 215/60 series tires.

Other details have yet to be revealed, but since the DOE has already listed some of its features for the Philippine market, we can expect the MG S5 to have plenty of amenities and features. These include a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, automatic climate control with rear vents, a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, a host of USB charging ports, and the MG Pilot suite of advanced driver assist systems (ADAS).

So far, MG Motor Philippines has remained quiet with regard to the S5 EV. But should the brand eventually reveal it, the MG S5 EV could take on the likes of the BYD Atto 3, GAC Aion V, and the Chevrolet Captiva EV.
