MG's new EV is called the Mulan
We want MG to bring the MG4 EV Mulan to PH
In the past few years, MG has established a presence already in our local car scene with models like the ZS, ZS T, and the MG 5. You see their RX5 SUV every now and then but recently, they hyped up their new offering, the HS. With all their local models using gas engines (some turbo charged), we have yet to see a fully electric vehicle offering from them locally.
Gas prices have been going up and the thought of EVs or even hybrid vehicles, has made the local car conversation rounds. EVs are a great option if paying for fossil fuel has been burning a hole in your pocket. With local hybrid offerings though, we sadly don’t have the tax cuts necessary to make these models more affordable and with that steep price, people don’t really consider them.

As we look to other markets for possible EV or hybrid contenders in our local market. We came across the MG4, which is called “Mulan” in China where it was teased to the public before its supposed global reveal.

The EV draws some design cues from the Cyberster concept. Some of the highlights of the Mulan include an expansive panoramic sunroof, LED head and taillights, a rear spoiler, and black contrast elements. This 5-door measures 4300 mm long which means it will roughly be the same size as the Nissan Leaf.
When it comes to power, it will reportedly come with the “Nebula” platform designed solely for EVs with a slim “LBS” lithium battery pack under the car’s hood. The new platform is rear-wheel drive, unlike the front-wheel-drive MG ZS EV which is currently available in select markets. The EV will have the capability to go from 0 - 100km/h in less than 4 seconds. With this, the MG4 can keep up with the faster gas-powered AWD hot hatches from Mercedes Benz-AMG and Audi.

Like the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus, a multi-link independent suspension will be featured in the rear and 18-inch wheels with orange brake calipers. Sadly though, no interior and dashboard shots have been seen. A tablet-style infotainment system, digital gauges, and leather sport seats will supposedly be available.

More details of the MG4 or Mulan will be released in the next couple of months. Pricing is yet to be announced but by the looks of the vehicle, this may be a great contender on the roads of Manila. With the whole MG lineup on gas engines, bringing in this model would diversify their portfolio and bring a good option for consumers hurting from high gas prices.
