We’ve lost count on how many times we’ve seen Chinese brands come up with rugged SUVs with boxy styling similar to the likes of the Land Rover Defender and the Land Cruiser Prado.
And yes, the list is still growing. A few months ago at Auto Beijing, GAC previewed its off-road ready SUV, the Yue 7. This time, the Chinese automaker has bared it all as it gears up for its world premiere.

With a unibody construction, the GAC Yue 7 follows the playbook of the Jetour T2, the GWM Haval H7, and the Land Rover Defender where its front fascia may have been inspired from. The boxy shape is complemented by angular wheel arches, large wing mirrors, chunky door handles, and a swing out rear door with a spare tire carrier.

We’ve had first glimpse of how it looked from the outside from a few months ago, but what’s interesting now is how GAC designed the interior of the Yue 7. Positioned at the base of the windshield is a 1.1-meter-wide head-up display, which is not too far off on what you’ll find in BMW’s Neue Klasse models.
Physical buttons for climate control, suspension settings, drive modes, and differential locks are also shown, which is a nice touch considering most Chinese brands prefer to put these functions on the infotainment screen.

A 15.6-inch display is then positioned in the middle of the dashboard, while behind the steering wheel are three digital gauges that GAC calls the “Star Ring Vision”. Instead of being a traditional instrument cluster, the digital gauges feature pitch, roll, and compass heading displays – a hark-back to the features usually seen in older generations of the Mitsubishi Pajero and Nissan Patrol. Elsewhere, quilted leather seats and lots of soft touch panels tie up the GAC Yue 7's premium aspirations.
Based on the PRC’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the PHEV powertrain of the Yue 7 will consist of a 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine that functions mainly as a generator, and a pair of electric motors that deliver a combined 544 PS. With a lithium-ion battery size of up to 46 kWh, the Yue 7 reportedly could reach an all-electric range of up to 188 km.

Chinese market sales of the GAC Yue 7 PHEV will commence by September. While GAC is yet to announce anything with regard to the Philippine market, the Yue 7 could be a nice addition to the brand’s growing lineup in the country.
