There seems to be no stopping BYD after the automaker achieved yet another production milestone. After building its 16-millionth New Energy Vehicle (NEV) last April 2026, BYD recently rolled off the 17-millionth NEV, the all-new BYD Seal 08 flagship sedan.

This achievement comes just after the automaker achieved its 16-millionth NEV in less than three months. More importantly, the 17-millionth NEV was achieved just over six months after BYD produced the 15-millionth NEV back in December 2025.

As mentioned earlier, the brand's 17-millionth NEV is the BYD Seal 08, an all-new flagship sedan that's available as an EV or as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). The former is built on an 800V architecture and comes with the brand's second-generation Blade battery with Flash Charging technology. On a full charge, the Seal 08 EV can cover up to 905 km on a single charge and delivers up to 510 kW of power or 693 PS.

Meanwhile, the Seal 08 PHEV comes with a 1.5L turbocharged engine and a pair of electric motors, which generate a combined 400 kW or 544 PS. Thanks to a high-capacity battery pack, the Seal 08 PHEV can cover up to 400 km on pure EV power and has a combined system range of 1,660 km, based on the CLTC cycle.

Design-wise, the BYD Seal 08 features the brand's “Ocean Aesthetics 2.0” design language, which features sweeping LED headlights, a sculpted hood, a sleek beltline, and dynamic wraparound LED taillights. Size-wise, the Seal 08 measures 5150mm long, 1999mm wide, and 1505mm tall on a 3030mm wheelbase.

With BYD already achieving 17 million NEVs in July 2026, the brand is inching ever closer to the 20 million NEVs milestone. The only question now is, when can we expect BYD to achieve this?
