We've already seen BYD Cars Philippines distributor ACMobility preview the Atto 2 EV at the 2026 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). While no exact specifications have been revealed just yet, the automaker has already received recognition from the Department of Energy (DOE), and the Atto 2 EV will apparently be offered in two distinct variants: Dynamic and Premium.

However, the EV version of the B-SUV may also be accompanied by the plug-in hybrid DM-i version, which is already available in Europe. In fact, the DOE has just recognized the Atto 2 DM-i for the Philippine market, and just like the EV model, the PHEV will be available in two variants.

Based on what the DOE has listed, the Atto 2 DM-i will be offered in Dynamic and Premium models. However, both variants will come with an electric motor that puts out 165 PS with 300 Nm of torque and is assisted by a 1.5L engine that will serve as a generator. More importantly, it will have a 7.9 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery that can provide up to 45 km of EV range, based on the NEDC cycle.

With both the engine and battery working together, however, BYD claims the Atto 2 DM-i has a combined system range of up to 1,045 km. The battery only supports 3.3 kW AC charging, which BYD says can recharge the Atto 2 DM-i from 15% to 100% in around 2 hours. Despite its small battery capacity, the Atto 2 DM-i still supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) function.

What's the big difference between the Dynamic and Premium versions of the Atto 2 DM-i? Well, the Dynamic doesn't come with Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS), as it's only standard on the Premium. This gives the electrified B-SUV forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, intelligent cruise control, traffic sign recognition, lane-departure assist, emergency lane-keeping assist, and high-beam assist.

With the Atto 2 DM-i getting recognized by the DOE as a PHEV, does this mean BYD Cars PH will offer both the EV and DM-i versions to Filipino buyers? That we'll have to find out later this year.
