Following a wave of new-generation models and a renewed focus on blending electrification with traditional combustion offerings, Audi is expanding its lineup from both ends. While much of the attention has centered on its latest EVs and redesigned volume models, the four-ring brand is now capping off its SUV range with a new flagship.

Audi has pulled the wraps off the all-new Q9 - its largest SUV to date. It’s the first time the German automaker has assigned the number "9" to one of its production vehicles, positioning it at the top of the lineup with a focus on luxury, technology, and practicality.

At 5.31 meters long, 2.21 meters wide, and 1.81 meters tall with a 3.14-meter wheelbase, the Q9 belongs in the full-size luxury SUV segment where the BMW X7 and the Mercedes-Benz GLS are competing.

The Q9 adopts an upright design with a prominent Singleframe grille that varies depending on the chosen trim. The standard Advanced model features vertical grille bars for a more elegant appearance, while the optional S line package adds a sportier character. But either way, the Q9 is fitted with digital matrix LED headlights up front and a ground-projected turn signal feature to improve nighttime visibility.

Buyers can specify alloy wheels measuring up to 23 inches, while the roof rails and the bulky rear end further emphasizes the SUV's proportions. Audi also introduces third-generation curved digital OLED taillights for the first time, which uses ultra-thin glass for improved visibility and styling.

For the cabin, Audi fitted its largest panoramic sunroof yet on the Q9, measuring more than 1.5 square meters. It has optional switchable transparency and customizable illumination that matches the ambient lighting. The dashboard comes with a triple screen layout – one for the driver display, the central touchscreen for infotainment, and a smaller passenger screen.

Audi also focused heavily on passenger comfort and premium materials. The first and second rows offer electrically adjustable seating, with available heating, ventilation, and massage functions depending on the configuration. The third-row seatbacks can also be folded individually at the touch of a button. Automatic doors debut on the Q9, featuring obstacle detection, soft-close functionality, and remote operation through the myAudi app.

At launch, the Q9 is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel engine producing 299 PS and 630 Nm of torque for the German market, while selected European markets will also receive a 245 PS version with 500 Nm. The engine is paired with Audi's MHEV Plus mild-hybrid system, which provides up to 24 PS of additional electric assistance for improved responsiveness and efficiency. An eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and quattro permanent all-wheel drive come standard across the lineup.

Safety and driver assistance technologies are equally extensive. The Adaptive Driving Assistant Plus enables hands-free driving in supported situations, while the advanced lighting systems improve visibility for both the driver and surrounding road users. The automatic doors also incorporate surround sensors that prevent them from opening into nearby obstacles, adding another layer of convenience and protection.

The SUV is now being manufactured at the Volkswagen Group plant in Bratislava, Slovakia. Audi says the new Q9 will be available to order in Germany by the end of this month, with deliveries scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of the year. Other markets, including the Philippines, could follow by the start of 2027.
