Remember when we reported that the BYD Atto 2 DM-i plug-in hybrid (PHEV) appeared on the Department of Energy's (DOE) list of recognized PHEVs? Well, the cat is officially out of the bag as the automaker held a special preview of the upcoming crossover SUV.

BYD Cars Philippines has opened the BYD Tech Tour at SM City Clark, bringing its latest innovations in electric mobility to customers in Central Luzon. Alongside the full BYD lineup, guests are treated to an exclusive preview of the BYD Atto 2 DM-i variant ahead of its official launch.

“Clark is a strategic hub for the brand to bring electric mobility closer to more Filipinos. As the gateway to Central Luzon, we are activating our regional presence to help drive the adoption of electric vehicles in the country. With the BYD Tech Tour, we are showcasing that electrified mobility is here, accessible and convenient wherever you are in the country,” said Bob Palanca, Managing Director of BYD Cars Philippines.

While official specifications have yet to be revealed, there will likely be two variants on offer. Based on what the DOE listed recently, the Atto 2 DM-i could be offered in Dynamic and Premium models. Both variants will get a 1.5L engine that will serve as a generator for the 7.9 kWh LFP battery, which drives a single electric motor that puts out 165 PS with 300 Nm of torque.

On battery power alone, BYD says the Atto 2 DM-i can do up to 45 km, based on the NEDC cycle. But with the help of the 1.5L engine and a full tank of gas, BYD says the Atto 2 DM-i has a combined system range of up to 1,045 km.

Beyond the Atto 2 preview, the Tech Tour serves as a massive interactive showcase of BYD's electrified lineup with tech modules, virtual reality experiences and complimentary refreshments.

Visitors can explore static display units of the brand’s bestsellers, including the BYD Seagull, the Sealion 6 DM-i, Seal 5 DM-i, Sealion 5 DM-i, Tang DM-i, and the newly launched Sealion 7, with knowledgeable product specialists ready to assist. For those looking to experience BYD's electrified mobility firsthand, the full BYD lineup is available for test drive onsite.
