The cats are officially out of the bag. After being recognized by the Department of Energy (DOE) and being teased by the automaker a couple of weeks ago, BYD Cars Philippines has confirmed they will soon launch not one but two new vehicles.

The automaker recently posted a teaser image of the new Seal 5 DM-i PHEV, as well as the Atto 2, which was shown to the public at this year's Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) and at SM City Clark in Pampanga two weeks ago. According to BYD, the two new electrified models will give Filipino customers more accessible mobility.

While the automaker has yet to reveal any specifications, the DOE has already given us a good idea of what to expect. Starting with the Seal 5 DM-i, the new plug-in hybrid sedan will most likely be offered in two distinct variants: Essential & Dynamic. Both variants will have a 1.5L engine that will serve as a generator for the 7.42 kWh battery pack. This then powers a single electric motor that produces 120 kW or 163 PS and 210 Nm of torque.

On a full charge, BYD says this gives the new Seal 5 DM-i an EV range of up to 55 km, based on the NEDC cycle. With a full tank of gas and a fully charged battery, the Seal 5 might be capable of covering up to 1,000 km.

Over to the Atto 2, BYD's smallest crossover will likely be available as a PHEV (DM-i) and as an EV. According to specifications gathered by the DOE, the Atto 2 PHEV will have a 1.5L engine serving as a generator and a 7.9 kWh battery pack. This then powers a single electric motor that puts out 165 PS and 300 Nm of torque. This gives the Atto 2 DM-i an EV range of up to 45 km and a combined system range of up to 1,045 km.

Meanwhile, the Atto 2 EV may get a 45.1 kWh battery pack, which gives the electric crossover a range up to 380 km, based on the NEDC cycle. The EV also supports both AC and DC charging, as well as a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system.

With BYD already confirming the new Seal 5 and Atto 2 for the Philippines, we can expect their official launch to happen very soon.
