After T9 pickup, JAC JS8 also gets PHEV recognition from DOE
JAC is building up its PHEV lineup in PH with JS8 joining the plug-in hybrid lineup
Last week, we noticed that the Department of Energy (DOE) recognized the T9 pickup as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model for the Philippine market. While JAC Philippines remains quiet about its new PHEVs, the brand itself has been busy with government applications for its electrified vehicles.
In fact, the automaker just received another recognition for a new plug-in hybrid, the JS8 PHEV. Also called the X8 PHEV in other markets, the DOE recently updated its list of recognized plug-in hybrids and has added the JS8 PHEV.
First launched at the 2024 Auto Guangzhou, the JAC JS8 PHEV, which was recently recognized by the DOE, is listed as a 2026 model year vehicle, has a maximum engine power of 110 kW or 150 PS, and a maximum electric power of 150 kW or 204 PS. It also has a battery capacity of 19 kWh and measures 4825mm long, 1870mm wide, and 1758mm tall.

Based on additional specifications about the JS8 PHEV in other markets, the single electric motor produces 204 PS with 320 Nm of torque, which drives the front wheels via a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). Meanwhile, the 1.5L turbocharged engine makes 150 PS and 210 Nm of torque.
It also has a 19 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which gives the JS8 PHEV an EV range of up to 110 km under the CLTC standard. It also supports 6.6 kW of AC charging and up to 40 kW of DC charging. With a full tank of gas and a fully charged battery, JAC claims the JS8 PHEV can cover up to 1,300 km, combined.

With three-row PHEVs continuing to gain popularity in the Philippines, it's no surprise that brands like JAC are busy expanding their electrified lineup. The only question now is, how much will the automaker sell this for against the likes of the Chery Tiggo rEV and the Jetour X70 Lightning i-DM?
