SPIED: Audi testing 1000 HP Nuvolari at Nurburgring after reveal

Earlier this June, Audi surprised the motoring world with the reveal of its first-ever hybrid supercar, the Nuvolari.

Featuring one heck of an exterior that gives it a Bugatti-like design, the Audi Nuvolari features F1-inspired aerodynamics, an electrified 4.0L twin-turbo V8 derived from the Lamborghini Temerario, and a limited production of just 499 examples worldwide.

But even though Audi has already revealed it to the world, that doesn't mean the Ingolstadt-based automaker is going to leave it at that. In fact, our spies managed to spot the Nuvolari being driven at the Nurburgring recently.

Despite Audi's (or Lamborghini's) best efforts to disguise the Nuvolari, it's quite apparent that it's the twin-turbo hybrid supercar. We're not entirely sure why Audi brought the Nuvolari to the Nurburgring, but perhaps the automaker is looking to extract every bit of performance from the vehicle for a special feat.

One possibility is that Audi may be looking to set up a new record lap around Green Hell for a plug-in hybrid supercar. Another possible reason why Audi is taking the Nuvolari for a spin around the Nurburgring is that Lamborghini may be gathering data or ensuring its performance is up to spec for Audi.

One last possible reason that Audi is testing the vehicle at the Green Hell is that Audi is testing an even more powerful version that could even be more limited than the regular Nuvolari. But since the regular version already makes over 1000 PS, it might only go to a select lucky few.

For now, we're still wondering why the Audi Nuvolari was being tested at the Nurburgring. But for the lucky 499 owners who will get their hands on one, they can at least know that Audi was busy testing the plug-in hybrid supercar at one of the most grueling test tracks in the world.
