When you think of the GWM brand, the things that come to mind are crossovers, SUVs, and pickup trucks. For 2026, however, we’re in for a surprise.

GWM just teased its first-ever supercar ahead of its big reveal at this year’s Beijing Auto Show. For a company best known for high-riding vehicles such as SUVs and pickups, GWM’s entry to the world of supercars marks a significant shift in the brand’s direction.

While they already have performance-oriented cars like the Ora 03 and the Ora Sport, the yet-to-be-named supercar is the brand’s first model built for true high-performance driving. Based on the teaser video that GWM Global posted, the supercar will be different from the likes of the Xiaomi SU7 and the BYD Yangwang U8.

Instead of relying on a fully electric powertrain, the GWM supercar looks to be the prime candidate to receive the brand’s 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8. The powertrain was shown at last year’s Shanghai Auto Show featuring a hot-vee layout, with the cylinders banked on a 90-degree angle.

The engine layout is similar to the likes of the 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 fitted to cars like the Mercedes-AMG GT and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. But according to reports, GWM is aiming much higher by benchmarking the Ferrari SF90. Judging by that, it means GWM’s supercar could be an electrified all-wheel-drive, plug-in hybrid monster.

Performance-wise, we could expect figures of up to 1,000 PS, and 0 to 100 km/h times in less than 3 seconds using the SF90 as a benchmark. What’s even more interesting is that in the teaser video, GWM’s very own Chairman Jack Wey was seen putting on a helmet, with the background of a race track. On the last part, an open-wheeled concept car is also likely to appear at this year’s show.

With all these things considered, does it mean GWM also has its sights in entering the world of motorsports? Well, stay tuned for more updates as we’ll be with GWM for the upcoming Auto China 2026.
