Slamd-Rover: This custom Land Rover Is the ultimate anti-off-roader
This unconventional Series III build trades its off-road capability for VW Beetle underpinnings and air suspension
Classic Land Rovers are built to go where the pavement ends.
The aptly named “Slamd-Rover,” however, takes the exact opposite approach, it was built to scrape the pavement.
It’s an unlikely concept, but this brilliantly executed custom build certainly thinks outside the box, combining the boxy body of a Land Rover Series III with the shortened chassis and air-cooled running gear of a Volkswagen Beetle.

The current owner bought it in 2020 as an unfinished project, then completed it with UK-based Dropworks Customs and Lowdown Transporters.
The donor Beetle was registered as a 1968 model, although only a handful of its original components remain. Its biggest party trick is a remote-controlled four-way air suspension that can drop the body virtually onto the pavement.
Forget approach and departure angles, suspension travel, ground clearance, and tackling trails; the Slamd-Rover’s sole idea of suspension articulation is getting as close to the pavement as possible.

Adding to the VW connection are remanufactured 17-inch “Cookie Cutter” ATS-style alloy wheels, including a matching spare mounted on the hood that's a nod to the classic Land Rover signature look.

The shortened Series III body wears a deliberately rough matte green finish, topped by a chopped beige roof sourced from a rare Safari model.
Most of the glass has been removed, leaving only the split windscreen and signature Alpine windows, the small roofline windows that provide additional light and upward visibility.

Inside, the intentionally rugged exterior provides a stark contrast to a surprisingly tidy cabin. It features a custom leather bench seat, floor carpeting, a Moto-Lita Mk3 wood-rimmed steering wheel, auxiliary gauges, and a tall custom aluminum shifter.
Custom rear compartments neatly house the air tanks and air compressor, sharing the space with the rear-mounted engine.

That engine is another departure from the Land Rover tradition.
Motivation comes from a 1.6L air-cooled flat-four-cylinder from a Volkswagen Type 2 Bus, fitted with twin-port heads, twin single-barrel progressive carburetors, 3D-printed velocity stacks, a painted air shroud, and a custom exhaust with twin tips.
The Slamd-Rover is currently listed on eBay for £15,000 (around PHP 1.25 million). The seller offers UK delivery, with worldwide shipping available at an additional cost.

With just enough room for a driver and passenger and a severely compromised ground clearance, thanks to its slammed suspension, this could very well be the least practical Land Rover ever built.
But if their goal was to get creative, have fun, and attract attention, this anti-off-roader Land Rover-VW mashup has already nailed it.
