The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has stepped up its law enforcement activities and has tapped netizens to help flag drivers who shouldn’t be on the road. Amid the surge in Show Cause Orders (SCOs), many have questioned their real impact. The LTO says these cases have been acted on and resolved.

In a recent report by the LTO, penalties ranging from suspensions to outright license revocations were meted out to erring motorists.

Remember the two drivers who got into a fistfight in Cainta? The LTO didn’t treat it lightly, and one was handed a one-year suspension, while the other received a harsher penalty of two-year license revocation.

Meanwhile, the Manila police officer who obstructed a motorist along Taft Avenue was also handed a two-year license revocation. The road rage incident was reportedly triggered by a horn blast after the police vehicle cut into the lane, which set off the officer.

How about the “animal lover” who stopped in the middle of NLEX in Pampanga to move a dog’s carcass and even filmed herself doing it?

Stopping on a high-speed expressway is strictly prohibited for obvious safety reasons, and the act could have triggered a multi-vehicle collision or pile-up, which could have also resulted in multiple human injuries and casualties. The driver was later handed a one-month license suspension.

The LTO also reported that cases involving a vlogger, a jeepney and a tricycle driver, a barangay tanod; as well as an SUV driver and a motorcycle rider linked to a road rage incident, have all been resolved with corresponding penalties, including license suspensions ranging from one month to one year.

“Our message is clear: the LTO is unwavering in its pursuit of disciplined roads. The outcomes from these Show Cause Orders serve as a powerful reminder that irresponsible driving will be met with full accountability. We call upon every motorist to prioritize safety and respect traffic laws,” said LTO Chief, Markus Lacanilao.
