About eight months after work began, the EDSA Rehabilitation Project is set for completion next year, according to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon.

“It will be next year. We will be going lane by lane to minimize disruption to our countrymen,” Dizon said during an inspection of Phase 2 of the EDSA rehabilitation project, which stretches from Guadalupe-Orense in Makati City to Monumento in Caloocan City.

The DPWH said construction is being carried out simultaneously from both Orense and Monumento to speed up the project while keeping traffic disruptions to a minimum.

Dizon added that the President had instructed the agency to complete the rehab works as quickly as possible without causing unnecessary inconvenience to motorists. He assured the public that lanes affected by overnight work would be reopened by 5:00 a.m. to accommodate the morning rush.

Aside from rehabilitating the roadway, the DPWH is also widening sidewalks along the entire EDSA corridor up to Monumento to improve pedestrian access and create a safer shared space for cyclists. Sidewalks that were previously between 1.2 and 1.5 meters wide are being expanded to 3.2 meters.

Dizon also addressed the heavy traffic around the Guadalupe Bridge, saying it is caused by the bridge’s ongoing seismic retrofitting. The work is aimed at strengthening the structure and is being carried out alongside the EDSA rehabilitation project.
