Stuck on EDSA? Magallanes Flyover repairs begin tonight, says DPWH

Another traffic headache awaits southbound motorists

As if the traffic nightmare that’s currently going on on EDSA since yesterday wasn’t bad enough, motorists heading south are about to face another headache. With the MMDA estimating that around 420,000 to 430,000 vehicles use EDSA every day, it’s safe to assume that hundreds of thousands have been affected by the massive traffic buildup from yesterday’s fiasco. Unfortunately, things won’t be getting any better.

Just recently, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) confirmed that the scheduled repair of the Alabang-bound lane of the Magallanes Flyover will push through as planned, starting 11:00 PM tonight, July 1.

Repair works will be carried out nightly from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM until October 15, 2026.

The project involves retrofitting and strengthening the flyover, with one lane heading toward Alabang to be closed during the construction period. That means motorists who have just made it through EDSA and are headed to Alabang or farther south should expect another gridlock at Magallanes. The same goes for drivers coming from Manila and Makati via the South Super Highway.

To ease congestion, if that’s really possible, the DPWH advises drivers of light vehicles to take the service road, while trucks and other heavy vehicles may continue using the flyover. Or better, find alternative routes or postpone your trip entirely to a later date.
