BMW X5 xDrive40i appears on DOE’s HEV list, PH launch soon?
BMW X5 xDrive40i could make PH debut with 380 PS and 520 Nm
It looks like BMW Philippines will soon offer a hybrid version of the fourth-generation X5 (codenamed G05).
For the longest time, the current X5 was only available with a turbo-diesel inline-six dubbed the xDrive30d, which makes 265 PS and 620 Nm of torque. The lineup was then updated with the xDrive50e plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which pairs a 3.0L TwinPower Turbo inline-six that’s assisted by an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. The result is a combined 489 PS and 700 Nm of torque.
All of that electrified performance translates to a price tag of PHP 6.99 million and the ability to run on electric power over certain distances. Meanwhile, those who prefer the turbo-diesel X5 can get it for less at PHP 5.99 million.

Soon, the X5 lineup may be joined by the X5 xDrive40i, which recently appeared on the Department of Energy’s (DOE) list of recognized hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). Based on the updated listing, the X5 xDrive40i will have a maximum engine power of 280 kW (or 380 PS) and will have a maximum electric power of 9 kW (or 12 PS). Last but not least, it will also be assisted by a small lithium-ion battery pack that’s rated at 0.46 kWh.
Looking at what other markets get, the BMW X5 xDrive40i comes with a 3.0L TwinPower Turbo inline-six that generates 380 PS with 520 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and it can sprint from 0 - 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. It also has an integrated starter generator (ISG) that provides an extra 12 PS and is powered by a lithium-ion battery.

Once the X5 xDrive40i is launched here in the country, it will slot between the xDrive30d and the xDrive50e PHEV. Since the xDrive40i is recognized as a hybrid, it will be exempt from number coding and will benefit from reduced tariffs.
BMW Philippines has yet to announce anything regarding the X5 xDrive40i, but since it’s already on the DOE’s list of recognized HEVs, it might not be long before the automaker decides to reveal it.
