Remember when we reported that Mazda Philippines distributor Bermaz Auto Philippines Inc. (BAPI) received regulatory approval for an upcoming passenger vehicle with a 2488cc gasoline engine? Based on that info, it looks like Mazda Philippines is preparing to launch the all-new third-generation CX-5.

Fast forward to July 2026, and it looks like our hunch was right. Just recently, the Department of Energy (DOE) updated its list of recognized hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and has added the all-new Mazda CX-5. Not only is the CX-5 listed as a 2026 model year vehicle, but the third-generation CX-5 for the Philippine market will be offered in two variants.

Based on the DOE’s listing, the CX-5 variant range will consist of the 2.5 AT FWD HEV and the range-topping 2.5L AT AWD HEV Premium Plus. Both vehicles will have a 2.5L engine, which will have a maximum engine output of 133 kW or 180 PS, while the maximum electric output is rated at 4.8 kW or 6.5 PS. Last but not least is a small battery that can hold 0.21 kWh of charge.

Based on those specifications, it’s highly likely the all-new CX-5 HEV for the Philippines will get the brand’s M Hybrid powertrain, which consists of a 2.5L SkyActiv-G inline-four and a 24V hybrid system. The result is a total system output of 190 PS and 252 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to the wheels via a 6-speed SkyActiv automatic transmission.

Size-wise, the all-new CX-5 will measure 4690mm long, 1860mm wide, and 1892mm tall on a 2815mm wheelbase.

With the all-new CX-5 already getting HEV recognition from the DOE, it might only be a matter of time before the all-new crossover SUV makes its Philippine debut. We’ll be keeping a close eye for more specifications and details about the third-generation CX-5.
