All-new Lexus ES 350h now on DOE's recognized list of hybrids

All-new Lexus ES 350h now on DOE's recognized list of hybrids
Eighth-generation Lexus ES recognized as both a hybrid and EV by the DOE
It looks like the eighth-generation Lexus ES will be offered in the Philippines in both electric and hybrid variants after all.
Back in June, Lexus Philippines posted teasers of what could be the all-new ES ahead of its scheduled launch. Combined with the fact that the Department of Energy (DOE) has already recognized the ES 350e not too long ago, we were expecting the ES to go full electric once it was revealed.

However, the DOE has updated its list of recognized hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and has added the ES 350h. That's right, the latest Lexus ES will still be available with a hybrid powertrain besides the new EV version.
Based on the DOE's recent listing, the Lexus ES 350h will be available in two variants: Executive and Luxury. Both have a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that has a maximum output of 139 kW or 189 PS and an electric motor that puts out 119 kW or 162 PS. In addition, both have a 1 kWh battery capacity to complete the ES 350h's hybrid system.

While the full specifications for the Philippines have yet to be revealed by Lexus, other markets already have the Lexus ES 350h, which was revealed earlier this year. In fact, the all-new ES 350h has been listed to have a combined system output of 247 PS. It's also mated to an e-CVT that drives the front wheels. Size-wise, the all-new ES measures 5140mm long, 1920mm wide, and 1555mm tall on a 2950mm wheelbase, signifying its growth spurt over the seventh-generation model.

With the all-new Lexus ES 350h already listed by the DOE for the Philippines as an HEV, the official launch of the next-generation premium sedan may just be around the corner. We won't be surprised if Lexus Philippines decides to launch both the ES 350e and ES 350h at the same time.
