The next-generation BMW M3 is preparing to cross into uncharted territory as the iconic high-performance nameplate transitions toward an all-electric powertrain, and recent spy shots captured at the track reveal that dynamic evaluation is in full swing.

Our spy photographers recently caught a heavily disguised prototype of the upcoming electric M3—internally referred to under the Neue Klasse umbrella—putting its chassis through its paces. However, what began as a routine test session quickly turned into a high-stakes track encounter when a Xiaomi SU7 Ultra closed in from behind, sparking an impromptu battle for the line.

With the 1,500-plus horsepower Chinese EV sedan applying relentless pressure from the rear bumper, the electric M3 prototype was pushed harder through the bends. Approaching a tight turn at high speed, the driver pitched the M3 into a controlled drift, smoking its tires while maintaining momentum through the corner as the SU7 Ultra gave chase.

Xiaomi seems to be feeling right at home after planting its flag in the ring°werk complex for its new technical center at the Nürburgring, while BMW says "not on my watch".

The dramatic encounter highlights the intense benchmark testing surrounding BMW M's first ground-up high-performance EV. The upcoming electric M3 is expected to leverage a dedicated multi-motor powertrain architecture paired with advanced quad-motor torque-vectoring control systems, designed to preserve the rear-biased handling, agility, and driver feedback that defined its ICE predecessors.

While official power output and performance numbers remain unannounced, these dramatic spy photos confirm that BMW M engineers are actively tuning the platform to ensure its electric future delivers the same unyielding track performance enthusiasts expect from the M badge.
