Xiaomi establishes R&D hub at Nürburgring’s reimagined ring°werk complex
Xiaomi is first official industry partner in Nürburgring ring°werk transformation
The Nürburgring management has announced a major strategic pivot for its ring°werk complex, reorienting the iconic facility into a multifunctional building that blends industrial R&D with public entertainment. International technology and automotive manufacturer Xiaomi has officially stepped on board as the first anchor tenant under this new hybrid operational framework.
Under the reorganization plan, approximately two-thirds of the total floor space inside ring°werk will be transformed into a modern technology and development zone dedicated to automotive industry players. The remaining third will remain open to the public, featuring a newly redesigned museum area alongside the existing ring°kino cinema. Depending on tenant arrangements, visitors will be able to explore public showrooms and peer into dynamic development areas through glass viewing panels.
Xiaomi, which already serves as the official automotive partner of the Nürburgring, will establish its own dedicated facility within the newly designated industrial wing. The move builds upon months of intensive vehicle testing, track development runs, and high-profile record attempts conducted by the brand on the Nordschleife. Construction on Xiaomi’s custom-designed premises has already commenced in staged phases, while track management actively negotiates with potential tenants for a second dedicated industrial zone inside the building.
To accommodate its new corporate partners, the Nürburgring operators completed extensive external infrastructure upgrades along the building. These modifications grant both industrial spaces direct access to the Grand Prix circuit's start-and-finish straight, creating an ideal environment for vehicle tuning, rapid component testing, and brand presentations.
Nürburgring Managing Director Christian Stephani emphasized that the transformation reflects a forward-looking strategy, noting that converting ring°werk into a multifunctional platform allows the venue to combine industry innovation with visitor experiences while securing sustainable, multi-pillar revenue streams.
Rudolf Dittrich, General Manager of the Xiaomi Europe R&D and Design Centre at Xiaomi Auto, reinforced the strategic importance of the move, highlighting that the venue’s location right next to the Grand Prix circuit consolidates development, technology, and brand presence at one of motorsport's most historic venues while strengthening Xiaomi's footprint across Europe.
