Fresh spy shots show the upcoming 2027 Mercedes E-Class with IQ Technology shedding significant layers of camouflage during road testing. The latest prototype images offer the clearest glimpse yet at the upcoming all-electric executive sedan, revealing key design details that closely mirror what buyers can expect on showroom floors.

Most notably, the prototype is now fitted with its final production light units at both the front and rear. Despite the remaining vinyl wrap, the new headlight graphics and a striking signature lighting design are clearly visible. These elements give a concrete preview of the brand’s evolving design language, which appears to move away from the controversial egg-shaped profile of the standalone EQE model in favor of a more traditional, stately three-box sedan proportion.

Current reports suggest that Mercedes-Benz has accelerated its development timeline for the project. The fully electric E-Class EQ is now expected to hit the market in 2027, pulling its launch forward from the originally slated 2028 debut.

Underneath the updated bodywork, the electric sedan sits on the flexible MB.EA-M architecture, a platform purpose-built for Mercedes’ mid-size and upper-class electric vehicles. The shift marks a broader strategic realignment for the German luxury brand. Rather than continuing with a distinct EQE line without a direct successor, Mercedes is unifying its portfolio. Under this strategy, electric variants will sit directly alongside their internal combustion counterparts, maintaining a visual and conceptual connection to the classic E-Class badge.

Visually, the front end is expected to draw heavy inspiration from the recently previewed GLC EQ styling cues. To enhance practicality and occupant comfort, engineers have slightly raised the roofline, directly addressing criticism of limited rear headroom in previous electric sedans.

Performance and range figures also point toward a significant leap forward. Powering the sedan will be highly efficient, next-generation lithium-ion battery packs, with top-tier long-range variants targeting an impressive single-charge range of up to 1,000 kilometers. Drivetrain options will cater to different driving needs, offering both a single-motor rear-wheel drive setup and a dual-motor 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
