2024 Chevrolet Spin makes us wish the MPV was still in PH

2024 Chevrolet Spin makes us wish the MPV was still in PH
Chevrolet Spin gets a fresh new look for 2024 model year
If there’s one MPV that had its life cut short in the Philippine market, it’s the Chevrolet Spin. First launched back in November 2013 to take on the likes of the Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Avanza, and the Nissan Grand Livina, it had great promise as it was only one of the few mini MPVs (at the time) that offered a turbo-diesel engine that can average up to 35 km/L as claimed by Chevrolet.
Unfortunately, Chevrolet decided to stop making the Spin at the Bekasi plant in Indonesia in 2015 due to low demand and high production costs. In addition, the American automaker ultimately pulled out of Indonesia in 2020, putting off any chance that the MPV would make a return to Southeast Asia.
Despite the Spin’s untimely demise in ASEAN, the MPV is still kicking in other markets, particularly in South America. Heck, in late 2018, Chevrolet revealed a facelifted version of the Spin MPV for the Brazilian market. And now that we’re in 2024, the company is set to reveal what could be the next-generation (or heavily refreshed) Chevrolet Spin.
This is your first look at the 2024 Chevrolet Spin, and boy does it look fresh AF. While the automaker did not officially say if it’s an all-new model or a significant update, it’s clear the automaker was busy giving the 7-seater a fresh new look for the 2020s. Featuring a more crossover-like face, the front end gets a bolder dual-port grille, aggressive LED headlights, and a broader-looking front bumper. It even gets faux air inlets that give the 7-seater a meaner look.

We have yet to see what changes Chevrolet did to the back of the MPV but we could expect significant changes there as well. What’s clear, however, is the fact that Chevy was busy changing up the cabin of the Spin.
Based on the other teaser photo they released, the interior looks like it was inspired by the all-new Trax with its new digital instrument cluster and the latest generation Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system on the touchscreen. Not only does it get more crisp graphics but it also comes with Wi-Fi connectivity, OnStar, and over-the-air updates.
As for its mechanical updates, Chevrolet said they tweaked the suspension to give it a taller ride height - resulting in its more crossover-like stance. The powertrain and steering settings were also modified to better suit and improve the driving dynamics of the MPV. No powertrain details were mentioned although it could still get the 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that’s mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The 2024 Chevrolet Spin is set to make its debut in Brazil in March while additional details about the new MPV will be released at a later date. While there’s little to no chance of the Spin making a return to the local market, it’s nice to see that the MPV is still alive and well in other parts of the world.
