VW to cut 100K jobs & close four factories; Lamborghini IPO back on the table
Volkswagen’s restructuring has reportedly put a Lamborghini IPO back on the table amid job cuts
Lamborghini has long been one of Volkswagen (VW) Group’s crown jewels. Now, a fresh report suggests even the Italian supercar maker is being discussed as advisers look at ways to unlock value while the German automaker pushes through a sweeping restructuring.
According to a report by the Financial Times, advisers have floated the idea of listing Lamborghini through an initial public offering (IPO). The move has reportedly emerged as one of several options being discussed as VW reviews its portfolio following the successful sale of its marine engine business, Everllence.

The discussions come as VW grapples with slowing demand, growing competition from Chinese automakers, and the enormous cost of transitioning to electric vehicles.
As part of its restructuring, VW is eliminating around 100,000 jobs and closing four factories in Germany. CEO Oliver Blume is leading the effort to reduce costs and improve the group’s long-term competitiveness. VW also recently sold its majority stake in its marine engine brand, Everllence, in a deal reportedly worth about EUR 10 billion.

That transaction has renewed discussion if VW could unlock more value from other parts of its business. While no decision has been made, Lamborghini has once again found itself at the center of the conversation because it remains one of the group’s most profitable businesses.
Even so, other analysts quoted by the Financial Times believe an IPO remains unlikely, as Lamborghini continues to be a major contributor to VW Group’s earnings, making it an asset the company would be reluctant to part with despite its ongoing restructuring.

But Lamborghini isn’t the only brand being considered. The Financial Times also reported that Scout Motors, VW Group’s US electric pickup and SUV brand, could eventually pursue an IPO. The company is said to be studying the feasibility of bringing in outside investors.
