It looks like Nissan Philippines Inc. (NPI) is just about ready to launch its electrified pickup truck to take on the likes of the BYD Shark 6 and Radar RD6 PHEV pickups. While we already got to see the Navara Pro PHEV (AKA Frontier Pro PHEV) at the 2026 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) last month, Nissan only held a special preview of it.

However, Nissan Philippines has been quite busy in the background after the Department of Energy (DOE) updated its list of recognized plug-in hybrids in the country. Now present on the agency's list is the Nissan Navara Pro PHEV, and there could be two variants on offer once it's officially revealed.

Based on the agency's listing, the Navara Pro PHEV will be a 2027 model year vehicle and will be offered in LE and VL models. Moreover, there will also be premium color options just like the upcoming Kicks e-Power, which was also recognized by the DOE as a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV).

The Navara Pro PHEV is listed to have a maximum electric power of 156 kW or 212 PS, while its maximum engine output is rated at 105 kW or 142 PS. It also has a battery capacity of 20 kWh and measures 5494mm long, 1960mm wide, and 1945mm tall on a 3300mm wheelbase.

In other markets where the Nissan Navara Pro PHEV is already on sale, the electrified pickup truck makes use of a 1.5L turbocharged engine, which puts out 142 PS and 220 Nm of torque. In fact, Nissan PH already secured regulatory approval earlier this year for such an engine, which has an exact displacement of 1497cc. Meanwhile, the electric motor puts out 212 PS and 350 Nm of torque.

Combined, the Navara Pro PHEV is rated at a total system output of 320 kW (435 PS) and 800 Nm of torque. A part-time 4WD system then assists it, several drive modes (Hybrid, Pure Electric, Performance, and Snow), and a four-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).

But what caught us by surprise was the 20 kWh battery pack that was mentioned by the DOE. That's because over in China, the 4WD models get a bigger 33 kWh battery pack. On a full charge, the 4WD version is rated to have an EV range of up to 131 km and a combined range of up to 1,050 km, both based on the NEDC standard.

Should the PH-spec Navara Pro PHEV only come with a smaller 20 kWh battery pack, its EV range could only be around 100 km, while its total system range may be less than 1,000 km.

With the Nissan Navara Pro already getting PHEV recognition from the DOE, it might not be long before the automaker holds the official launch. The only question now is, will the PH-spec model actually get the bigger 33 kWh battery pack, or will it only get a 20 kWh battery?
