After revealing its contender against the BYD Shark 6 earlier this year, Chery has officially revealed the production version of the KP31 PHEV pickup concept.

It's called the Chery Stockman, and it's gearing up for its global debut in Australia. According to the automaker, the Stockman does everything a pickup should. These include hauling, towing, and even charging itself. However, it also has the added benefit of a high-tech & comfy cabin, while also producing fewer emissions than typical pickup trucks.

As mentioned before, this electrified pickup truck from Chery is a plug-in hybrid. But unlike most PHEV pickups, it has a turbo-diesel engine. That's right, instead of a gas engine, it has a good ol' 2.5L turbo-diesel under the hood. It is then assisted by a battery pack that Chery claims gives the Stockman up to 100 km of EV range, based on the NEDC cycle.

While Chery has yet to release powertrain specifics, the automaker did say that the Stockman has a total system output of 350 kW or 476 PS and a whopping 800 Nm of torque. Power is then transferred to a 4WD system, complete with three diff locks (front, center & rear). Also worth mentioning is its braked towing capacity of 3500 kg, which means it can easily tow plenty of stuff with ease. It also has double wishbone suspension in the front and leaf springs in the back.

Size-wise, the Stockman measures 5450mm long, 2010mm wide, and 1890mm tall on a 3250mm wheelbase. It also has a ground clearance of at least 247mm, which is more than enough when going off the beaten path. As for the bed, it's 1560mm long, 1560mm wide, and 500mm tall.

Chery also released pictures of the Stockman's interior, and it looks promising. It has plenty of creature comforts one would normally find on luxury SUVs, like heated & ventilated front seats, full leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, a wireless charging pad, ambient lighting, a heads-up display, and a suede finish on the dashboard, door cards, and roof lining. For extra peace of mind, it also has a suite of advanced driver assist systems.

With a frame-based platform, an electrified turbo-diesel powertrain, the ability to cover up to 100 km on EV power, and a braked towing capacity of 3.5 tons, the Chery Stockman is looking promising indeed. So much so that Chery claims the Stockman was tuned for Australian conditions and was benchmarked against its closest rivals.

It's set to make its debut soon in Australia and will likely give the BYD Shark 6 something to think about. The question now is, can we expect Chery Auto Philippines to bring the Stockman here?
