The luxury EV market may be experiencing a slowdown in terms of sales, but that hasn't stopped brands like Bentley from testing and developing their upcoming EVs. In fact, our spies were able to spot Bentley's upcoming zero-emissions vehicle.

While they already have the Bentayga in plug-in hybrid (PHEV) form, their latest crossover SUV will trade ICE and hybrid power for a fully electric powertrain. But what really caught our attention was its supposed name.

Based on recent trademark filings, Bentley's upcoming electric SUV may have two possible names: Mayon or Barnato. Starting with the former, the Mayon name may have likely been inspired by the active volcano here in the Philippines. With its almost perfect cone shape, Bentley might have chosen it to go along with the EV's sleek shape.

On the other hand, the Barnato name is likely a callback to Woolf Barnato, a British financier, race car driver, and one of the “Bentley Boys” who won three consecutive wins out of three entries in Le Mans from 1928 to 1930.

For now, there is no word yet as to which name Bentley will use for their upcoming EV. But since both names were trademarked by Bentley, perhaps the automaker is still weighing their options and decided to trademark both names.

As for the camouflaged prototype that was spotted recently, the all-electric Bentley features a sleek and dynamic look that makes it more aerodynamic than the Bentayga. It also has what looks to be a pair of eye-catching headlights and a distinct set of LED taillights. Its overall shape appears to be a mix of a shooting brake and a wagon, giving the mystery EV its unique shape.

Our spies were also able to take pictures of the EV's interior, and we were surprised by what we saw. Immediately grabbing our attention was the curved touchscreen infotainment display on the center dashboard. Not only does it look cool, but the screen's design appears to make it look like it's made from a malleable material.

Since Bentley's upcoming EV will likely be based on Volkswagen's Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform (which is also seeing use in the Porsche Cayenne EV), the mystery Bentley might have similar specifications. That means it could get a 113 kWh battery pack, which translates to a range of up to 640 km. Power-wise, the all-new Bentley EV may generate over 1,000 PS and achieve a 0 – 100 km/h sprint of less than 3 seconds.

With Bentley playing its cards close to the chest, we might have to wait for a little longer before the automaker fully reveals the new EV.
