Sayonara: Adorable Honda e drives into the sunset
Honda e production to cease in January 2024
It's the end of the line for Honda's cute little EV hatchback.
Honda has announced on its official Japanese website that production of the Honda e is ending in January 2024. The manufacturer is wrapping up its production run just four years after its debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

During its model run, the Honda e's retro-looking exterior and screen-dominated interior won several awards for being ahead of its time. Among those were the Red Dot Design Award in 2020 and the World Urban Car of the Year in 2021. It was even the first Japanese car to be named as a winner of the German Car of the Year award.

On our most recent trip to Japan, the Honda e was even used as a test mule for Honda's solutions for making roads safer.
However, as the EV market is exponentially growing and becoming a lot more competitive, the Honda e's short range and limited size coupled with a high price of admission won't sell in today's times. In the European market, Honda has recently announced it will discontinue selling the EV hatchback. In Japan, however, Honda says sales will continue until stocks of the car run out.

While we're sad to see the cute little hatchback drive into the sunset, the Honda e has done its job in being the “OG” for Honda's electrification efforts. Since then, Honda has developed EVs for more practical use with more range and more intelligent safety tech, such as the Honda e:N1 that's coming to the ASEAN market next year.
