We already know that Nissan Philippines Inc. (NPI) plans to launch not one, not two, but several electrified models later this year. Heck, NPI has already confirmed that the refreshed Kicks e-Power will make its Philippine debut soon.

That means the Nissan Primera EV (AKA N7 EV), the X-Trail e-Power, the Frontier Pro PHEV pickup, and the aforementioned Kicks e-Power will most likely be launched at the 2026 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS). Add the fact that some of the models are already recognized by the Department of Energy (DOE), and Nissan’s upcoming vehicles are inching closer to their Philippine debut.

Now, we have received additional information about the Frontier Pro PHEV’s possible powertrain for the Philippine market, and we’re not entirely surprised. Based on a recent regulatory approval, Nissan Philippines has been granted to bring a light-duty vehicle that’s powered by a 1497cc gasoline engine. The listing also mentioned a 156 kW electric motor, which translates to 212 PS, a reference mass of 2620 kg - 2660 kg, and a maximum mass of 3310 kg.

A quick check at the figures and the mystery vehicle is most likely the upcoming Frontier Pro PHEV pickup truck. Co-developed by Dongfeng and first revealed during the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, the Nissan Frontier Pro PHEV combines a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s assisted by an electric motor, a 32.85 kWh battery pack, and a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). This translates to a combined system output of 408 PS.

On a full charge, the Frontier Pro PHEV is rated to travel up to 135 km on electric power alone, based on the CLTC cycle. With both the engine and electric motor working together, however, it’s rated to cover more than 1,000 km, which pits it directly against the likes of the BYD Shark 6, Changan Hunter rEV, and the Radar RD6 PHEV pickup trucks.

Despite being a plug-in hybrid pickup, the Frontier Pro is available with a rear locking differential, which works with an Intelligent AWD system that automatically adjusts torque distribution between the front & rear axles. This makes it more than capable when going off-road. It also has a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system that supports up to 6kW of power, a power tailgate function, a retractable corner step for easier ingress/egress from the bed, and a multi-link rear suspension.

With Nissan already getting approval to bring a light-duty vehicle that’s assisted by an electric motor, it might not be long before the automaker launches the Frontier Pro PHEV. Hopefully, our hunch that it will be revealed at PIMS 2026 alongside other vehicles is right.
