Next-gen Mitsubishi Strada test mule caught with Mirage headlights

Next-gen Mitsubishi Strada test mule caught with Mirage headlights
Mitsubishi spotted with next-generation Strada test mule
If there’s one Mitsubishi that needs a full model change (aside from the Mirage and Mirage Hatch), it’s the Strada pick-up truck. Having been on sale since 2015 and only receiving a heavy facelift in 2018, the pickup truck is already due for a replacement.
Well, these images couldn't have come at a better time. By the looks of it, Mitsubishi is already busy testing and developing its successor. Spotted recently near the Arctic Circle is what appears to be a test mule of the all-new Strada/Triton pick-up.

We mentioned mule because even though it looks like it’s underpinned by a new chassis, the pick-up is not yet wearing a new body. Instead, it borrows most of its exterior panels from the current Strada model.
Despite using older body panels, it appears the next-generation Strada will have a much longer wheelbase. The new pick-up could also have a different headlight arrangement due to the fact that the test mule was fitted with headlights borrowed from the Mirage Hatchback. While some might say this was done to throw off spy photographers, Mitsubishi could be testing a new headlight arrangement for the sixth-generation Strada.

Also worth mentioning, the test mule has the relocated exhaust pipe that exits out of the rear bumper, as well as a Euro pallet and metal cage strapped to the rear bed. This could mean Mitsubishi is already testing its carrying capacity as well.
There’s no exact date as to when Mitsubishi will launch the all-new Strada. What we do know, however, is that both the next-generation Strada and Navara will be platform brothers. This was confirmed by Nissan Chief Operating Officer Ashwani Gupta back in June 2020.

Since both automakers are part of the Alliance, it makes sense that both pickup trucks use a common platform. Other parts that could be shared between the two trucks are the engines, drivetrain components, suspension, as well as transmission options. When it comes to the design though, expect the next-gen Strada and Navara to each have their own unique exterior look.

With Mitsubishi still working on a test mule, it might take a while before we see the Strada’s next-generation body style.
