"It is exceedingly rare to find a high-performance prototype sitting completely unattended in a quiet courtyard without a swarm of engineers hovering nearby, but that isolation usually makes the discovery all the more thrilling," quipped our spy shooter. They have just spotted this - a mysterious Lexus RX development vehicle, and a closer look revealed a far more aggressive demeanor than any production version currently on the road.

The most immediate giveaway of its performance potential lies behind the wheels: pristine, bright-red Brembo brake calipers clamping down on large drilled discs that have not yet seen a single meter of tarmac.

Up front, the prototype sports additional functional air intakes carved into the lower section of the spindle grille. The stance is noticeably wider thanks to flared fenders, which house an aggressive staggered wheel and tire setup consisting of 265/40 ZR 21 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tires up front and massive 295/35 ZR 21 rubber at the rear. Around back, dual exhaust outlets exit prominently from both the left and right sides of the lower rear apron.

Everything points toward this prototype being the rumored Lexus RX "Morizo RR", slated for a potential global release in 2028 to take on heavyweights like the BMW M5 and the Audi RS Q8. Following in the footsteps of the smaller LBX Morizo RR, this flagship build takes Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda’s personal motorsport-inspired touch and applies it to Lexus's popular luxury crossover lineup.

Underneath the muscular bodywork, the crossover is expected to debut a next-generation performance hybrid powertrain. The setup will likely pair an all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with high-output electric motors mounted on both the front and rear axles.

Combined with an advanced all-wheel drive system, rumors suggest this electrified powertrain will be capable of delivering 600 horsepower or more, giving Lexus a formidable weapon in the high-performance luxury SUV arena.
