Mitsubishi bringing back Pajero’s signature multi meter for all-new model
All-new Pajero to have digital version of multi meter display
By now, we are all probably aware that the Mitsubishi Pajero is coming back. But even more than that, the nameplate is returning to its roots as a 4x4 SUV that’s based on a ladder frame for the fifth-generation model.
To mark its return to its rugged, go-anywhere nature, Mitsubishi has teased a returning feature not seen since the Field Master Pajero generation days. The Japanese manufacturer has revealed the fifth-generation Pajero will have a digital version of the circular multi meter gauge pod that was such a recognizable feature in the first and second generation Pajero.
The analog multi meter gauges in the first two Pajero generations featured information about the pitch and roll angles of the vehicle, altitude, compass, barometric pressure, and outside temperature, which were placed at the center of the dashboard. Mitsubishi eventually evolved it into a horizontal LCD multi information display for succeeding models.
For the fifth-generation model, Mitsubishi says the multi meter will have a wider range of available vehicle information, and will even include left-right torque distribution. This will likely be a display option for the infotainment screen of the all-new Pajero, as we’ve already seen Mitsubishi do it in models like the XForce and the Destinator, which even featured avionics-style graphics for displaying the vehicle’s monitoring systems.
These features allow drivers to monitor constantly changing driving conditions and vehicle dynamics in real time.
Mitsubishi says the Pajero will return by the autumn season in Japan, which means we can expect it by the -BER months of 2026. The Pajero will be underpinned by the Triton pickup truck’s platform, but will feature model-specific front and rear suspension setups to prioritize passenger comfort.
