MG Motor Philippines is stepping up its electrified model lineup. After launching the ZS Hybrid last year and revealing the G50 PHEV at the 2026 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), MG is preparing to launch yet another electrified offering.

The Department of Energy (DOE) recently updated its list of recognized plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and a new name popped up. It's called the MG RX9 PHEV, and it looks like it's gunning for the likes of the BYD Tang DM-i.

Billed as a 2026 model year vehicle, the DOE listing for the MG RX9 PHEV (AKA Roewe RX9 PHEV) mentions that it measures 4983mm long, 1967mm wide, and 1786mm tall on a 2915mm wheelbase. Side-by-side with the Tang DM-i, and the RX9 PHEV is longer by 113mm, wider by 17mm, and has 95mm of extra wheelbase. The RX9 is also taller by 61mm, which translates to more headroom for tall passengers.

Since it's a PHEV, the RX9 has a 1.5L turbocharged engine that's assisted by an electric motor and a 24.7 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery pack. The engine makes 143 PS, while the electric motor generates 239 PS. The result is a combined system output of 328 PS. Power is then sent to the front wheels via a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).

On a full charge, MG says the RX9 PHEV can cover up to 100 km and supports a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function. Its total system range was not mentioned, although we won't be surprised if it's capable of traveling up to 1,000 km or more.

When it comes to features and amenities, the MG RX9 PHEV has plenty to offer, based on the initial specifications. These include two 12.3-inch screens (digital instrument panel and a touchscreen infotainment system), a 12-speaker Bose sound system, power-adjustable front seats with memory function for the driver, 4-way captain seats for the second row (50:50 split for the third row), a 360-degree camera system with chassis view, and the MG Pilot suite of advanced driver assist systems (ADAS).

With the MG RX9 already recognized by the DOE, maybe MG plans to launch it in the Philippines soon, perhaps at the 2026 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) this coming June.
