Maserati couldn’t have picked a better way to celebrate its racing heritage. The Italian marque’s GT2 race car made its debut in the GT America Powered by AWS series at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, scoring two victories in a weekend that coincided with the 100th anniversary of both its Trident emblem and motorsport debut.

Fielded by Risi Competizione and driven by Peter Dempsey, the No. 100 Maserati GT2 took wins in both 40-minute races on October 10 and 11. Equipped with the GT2+ kit, the car competes under SRO3 regulations alongside GT3 machinery.

The first race was a dramatic affair. Starting from the back of the grid, Dempsey fought his way through the field before snatching the lead with less than three minutes remaining. He then held off the competition to win by less than a third of a second.

Race 2 was a more straightforward affair. Starting from pole position, Dempsey led from lights to flag to complete the double victory. He also recorded the fastest lap in both races, underlining the GT2’s pace around the historic circuit.

The Indianapolis triumph carries extra significance for Maserati. The marque previously won the Indianapolis 500 in 1939 and 1940 with Wilbur Shaw at the wheel of a Maserati 8CTF, making it the only Italian manufacturer to have won the legendary race.

Beyond its GT America debut, the Maserati GT2 competes in more than 20 racing series across five continents. The optional GT2+ package, developed with SRO, adds aerodynamic upgrades for increased downforce alongside revisions to the engine, dampers, and brakes. Customers can order a new car with the package or have an existing GT2 converted.

Maserati Corse head Vincent Biard said the double win was a proud moment for the brand and its racing partners, while highlighting the GT2’s potential and Maserati’s efforts to give customers more opportunities to compete.

For a marque marking a century of its Trident badge and racing history, two wins at Indianapolis make for a fitting celebration and a strong statement that Maserati still has plenty of fight left on the circuit.
