Toyota launches GR Kart for entry level motorsports
GR Kart costs around PHP 160K in current JPY conversion
A few months ago, we reported on Toyota and its plans to establish a Gazoo Racing kart factory. And true enough, the Japanese automaker has finally revealed the cheapest four-wheeled GR model you can buy.
Toyota has launched the GR Kart - an entry-level racing kart aimed at making more hands-on access to motorsports reachable for children and families. Offered at a lower price point compared to standard race karts, GR aims to make direct involvement in motorsports possible for more people.

Unlike dedicated race karts with fixed pedals and steering wheel angles, the GR Kart allows everyone from children to adults to share the same kart. It features an adjustable pedal slider and a tiltable steering wheel which can accommodate children and adults from 135 centimeters to 185 centimeters tall.
The GR Kart is also designed to ensure a sense of security for beginners. The front bumper was shaped to prevent other karts from riding up onto a rear tire in the event of a collision; the rear hub was fitted with a stopper pin to prevent the unlikely case of rear hub detachment. Meanwhile, the seats were designed with a ledge on the upper portion for easier ingress and egress, while the throttle cable was mounted specifically to reduce instances of sticking in the open position.

Instead of a chain-drive system, the GR Kart uses a belt-drive system to eliminate soiling from chain oil, and includes an automatic tensioner that removes the need to adjust belt tension periodically, making maintenance easier.
The 215cc four-stroke engine is fitted with a newly developed diaphragm carburetor to minimize fuel fluctuation during high-g cornering, while the combination of a self-charging battery and a primer pump allows for easier startup procedures for users.

Toyota also took into consideration the ease of transport and storage with the GR Kart. The compact dimensions mean it can fit easily in the back of a Noah or Voxy minivan, while the oil catch tank, carburetor, and fuel filler opening were oriented to minimize fuel leaks when the kart is stored in an upright position at home, reducing the need to drain the kart’s gasoline and engine oil when placed for storage.

The GR Kart costs JPY 385,000 (PHP 157,000) at current conversion rates. In Japan, it is already available for purchase at 36 participating kart track locations and 7 participating GR Garages. Toyota also offers dedicated GR Kart-branded race gear and kart accessories, which are sold separately.
