After being spotted just a few days ago testing the GR GT hybrid supercar at the Nurburgring, Toyota was recently spotted testing what could be their latest GR model that will join the likes of the GR Yaris and GR Corolla.

A social media user on X (formerly Twitter) recently posted several pictures of the prototype (or test mule) vehicle being driven on Fuji International Speedway. The prototype is a mishmash of parts and design, with headlights & taillights derived from a standard Yaris hatchback, aftermarket alloy wheels, tacked-on fender flares, and a custom body kit that gives it a 2000s tuner appearance.

However, hidden behind the massive front bumper intake is what looks to be an intercooler. Also worth mentioning are the massive side intakes, which could indicate it has a mid-engine layout. If anything, the prototype we just saw could be a heavily modified GR Yaris M Concept, which gets a mid-mounted 2.0L turbocharged inline-four dubbed the G20E.

Based on previous reports, the G20E will generate upwards of 400 PS, which may translate to up to 500 Nm of torque. With Toyota hinting as early as 2024 for a revival of the MR2 and Celica (a Toyota executive even hinted about its return, which surprised Akio Toyoda), the test mule/prototype that was seen recently may be Toyota's next 2.0L GR model.

Once revealed, Toyota's newest GR offering may get the brand's new 2.0L G20E turbocharged inline-four and could be mated to either an 8-speed automatic transmission or a proper 6-speed manual gearbox.

Want to hear it for yourself? The X user (@You_SuiKoyoAZ) also posted a video of the prototype vehicle, and it has one heck of an exhaust note.
