Dante Silverio unveils restored #49 Celica race car with special celebration
Preserving an iconic piece of Philippine motorsport history, following a lengthy and meticulous restoration
Last Friday, automotive enthusiasts and some of the biggest names in Philippine motorsport gathered at the Autometics Center Al Fresco Lounge in Makati City for the unveiling of Dante Silverio's legendary #49 Celica race car. This is the very machine he drove to victory at the 1972 Greenhills Grand Prix, where he triumphed against a field of formidable international competitors.

More than just a vehicle reveal, the event became a reunion celebrating one of the most iconic race cars in local motorsport history. Guests had the rare opportunity to get up close with the meticulously restored machine while Mr. Silverio shared stories from its storied racing career, making the occasion a fitting tribute to a remarkable chapter in Philippine motorsports.

One of the evening's highlights came when Dante Silverio fired up the Celica’s race-prepared 2T-G engine. The unmistakable roar of the twin-cam powerplant, accompanied by the induction sound from its twin side-draft carburetors and the raspy side-exit exhaust note, filled the venue and delighted everyone in attendance.

Guests also received a specially printed commemorative Celica T-shirt, made even more memorable when Mr. Silverio personally signed each one. The celebration continued with food, drinks, and live entertainment, highlighted by a special performance from Mr. Silverio himself. Serenading guests with classic Frank Sinatra hits, adding a personal touch that created a warm and nostalgic atmosphere.

More than a simple car unveiling, the gathering was a celebration of Dante Silverio's enduring legacy and the racecar that helped shape Philippine motorsport. It was a memorable night that brought together generations of racers, enthusiasts, and friends to honor one of the sport's true pioneers.
