A Metropolitan Police officer in London got an unusual assignment after the force seized a Ferrari Monza SP2 worth around GBP 3.7 million, or roughly PHP 305 million, from a driver who was allegedly behind the wheel without proper insurance or a full driving license.

The rare Ferrari was among several vehicles seized during a major police operation targeting uninsured, dangerous, and what the Brits call “antisocial driving” during a Supercar Meet in what many consider London’s wealthiest area.

But the Monza SP2 was the one that caught everyone’s attention. Instead of being loaded onto a tow truck, the open-top supercar was driven through Mayfair and Marble Arch by a Metropolitan Police officer, with police vehicles escorting it from behind.

The officer was seen wearing sunglasses as he drove the Ferrari to the police pound, turning what should have been a routine vehicle recovery into something that looked straight out of a movie.

The Ferrari had reportedly only been in the UK for a short time before it was seized, and reports say it was being driven by someone with a provisional license and no insurance, giving police grounds to impound the car. And this isn’t exactly a Ferrari you can easily replace, as only 499 Monza SP2s were produced, making it one of Ferrari’s most exclusive modern supercars.

The seizure was part of a wider operation held this August around Hyde Park, Kensington and Chelsea. Dozens of officers took part, with support from the Motor Insurers’ Bureau, as authorities went after vehicles linked to uninsured, dangerous and antisocial driving, which we believe means reckless driving in Pinoy parlance.

Police also said the operation was the largest of its kind since the campaign began, both in the number of vehicles seized and their combined value. Authorities have been stepping up enforcement against antisocial driving in parts of London following complaints about excessive noise, dangerous driving and heavily modified vehicles.
