Who says boxy SUVs are just a passing trend? Jetour would probably disagree. The Chinese automaker has announced that its T2 SUV has surpassed 500,000 global sales just 33 months after its market debut, making it one of the brand’s fastest-selling models to date.

The milestone also puts the T2 alongside some of the industry’s more established SUV nameplates in terms of sales momentum.

Jetour credits the T2’s success to its positioning as a light off-road SUV, combining rugged styling with everyday usability. Its upright, boxy design has become one of its defining features, appealing to buyers who want something that stands out from the growing number of crossover SUVs on the road.

Well, it’s pretty obvious that the T2 has similarities in design to Land Rover’s Defender. Chery, after all, is the joint venture partner of Land Rover in China.

Under the hood, the gasoline-powered T2 is offered with a 2.0L turbocharged engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It also comes with Jetour’s XWD intelligent four-wheel-drive system and a 7+X off-road mode designed to make trail driving more approachable for less experienced drivers.

The lineup has since expanded with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant, giving Jetour the flexibility to offer either gasoline or electrified powertrains depending on the needs of different markets.

But beyond its off-road credentials, the T2 is also packed with features expected in a modern SUV. Standard equipment includes a large infotainment display, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and six airbags.

Jetour also says the T2 was engineered to deliver a quieter cabin and a more comfortable ride for daily driving. The T2 was also developed to meet global automotive standards and has undergone durability testing in a wide range of climates, from the extreme heat of the Middle East to the freezing temperatures of northern Asia. Those tests, Jetour says, were meant to ensure that the T2 can handle even the harshest weather conditions across international markets.
