Believe it or not, the seventh-generation BMW 7 Series (codenamed G70) has been in the Philippine market for quite some time now. First revealed by SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp. way back in March 2023, BMW's latest flagship sedan was initially launched as the 735i and the all-electric i7 xDrive60. It was then followed by the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version dubbed the 750e xDrive. We were also lucky to get behind the wheel of the 7 Series and experience what it feels like to be in one.

But since it's been more than three years since the G70 7 Series was revealed for the Philippines, the full-size luxury sedan is due for a minor model change. With that, it looks like we can expect BMW Philippines to perhaps launch it soon.

We recently checked out the Department of Energy's (DOE) list of recognized PHEVs and stumbled upon a new addition, the BMW M760e xDrive PHEV. Not only is it listed as a 2026 model year vehicle, but this could be an indication that the updated G70 7 Series could be on its way here.

Based on the initial specifications, the M760e xDrive will have a maximum engine output of 280 kW or 380 PS with 520 Nm of torque and is assisted by an electric motor that makes 145 kW or 197 PS. It is then assisted by a 22 kWh battery pack, which gives it an EV range of up to 85 km, based on the WLTP cycle.

In other markets, the BMW M760e xDrive is powered by a 3.0L TwinPowerTurbo inline-six that's assisted by an electric motor and a high-capacity battery that's rated at 22 kWh. This translates to a combined system output of 568 PS and a whopping 800 Nm of torque. From a standstill, BMW claims the high-performance plug-in hybrid sedan can hit 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds.

Should BMW Philippines launch the refreshed 7 Series, which was revealed in China a few months ago, interested customers can expect the flagship sedan to get the Neue Klasse makeover. This gives the 7 Series a bolder and more mature look from every angle. Heck, I dare say the full-size luxury saloon looks better than the current G70 model.

With the BMW M760e xDrive already getting PHEV recognition from the DOE, we're curious if BMW Philippines will launch the current version or the facelifted model soon.
