The Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Philippine Cup continues to be a hunting ground for Iñigo Anton. The Motul-backed Obengers Racing driver delivered yet another masterclass performance during the recent second leg of the national racing series at Clark International Speedway from July 9-11, further solidifying his status as a championship favorite in the newly introduced Tamaraw One-Make Race (OMR) category.
Already a multi-time TGR Vios Cup champion, the Baguio native proved that his talents transfer seamlessly to utility trucks. Anton set the tone early in the weekend by securing pole position during Friday's qualifying session. He translated that starting advantage into an uncontested victory in Race 1, leading from lights out to the checkered flag and crossing the finish line with a commanding four-second lead over Oliver Aquino.
Saturday’s Race 2 proved to be a much stiffer test for the young racing prodigy. Under the series' reverse-grid rules, Anton was forced to start from sixth position. Undeterred, he showcased his technical prowess and patience, slicing his way through the pack. After executing a series of precise overtakes on seasoned contenders Raymond Cudala and Alain Alzona, Anton claimed his second victory of the weekend.

The final race of the weekend brought wet track conditions, presenting a new set of challenges. Starting from sixth on the grid once again, Anton aimed for a clean sweep of the weekend. While he narrowly missed out on the top step of the podium, he crossed the line in a strong second place. It was a mature, calculated drive focused on securing crucial points for his championship campaign.

Anton reflected on the challenging wet race, noting that overtaking in the rain was quite tough due to the limited grip. He expressed happiness with securing second place from the reverse grid and commended Russell Reyes for driving a strategic race. Anton emphasized that he chose not to force any high-risk moves to avoid crashing out and losing valuable points, concluding that two wins and a second-place finish were an excellent result for the championship. He also extended his gratitude to Cosco Oben and the entire Obengers Racing team for the opportunity and support.
