VinFast has launched a web-based Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Calculator in the Philippines, giving potential buyers a way to compare the estimated long-term cost of owning an electric vehicle against a conventional gasoline-powered car.

The tool is now available through VinFast’s Philippine website (link here) and factors in several ownership expenses, including financing, energy or fuel costs, maintenance, driving distance and ownership period.

Users can select a VinFast model, enter their average monthly mileage, choose a battery ownership option and set how long they expect to keep the vehicle. The calculator then generates an estimated monthly payment, energy cost and overall ownership cost, along with a comparison against an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle.

VinFast says the tool is meant to give buyers a better idea of the potential savings from switching to an EV instead of looking only at the vehicle’s purchase price.

For example, the company’s calculator estimates that a buyer choosing a VinFast VF 7 Plus with a battery subscription, driving 2,000 kilometers per month and keeping the vehicle for five years, would spend around PHP 1,884,890 over the ownership period.

Under the same assumptions, the calculator estimates an ICE vehicle would cost around PHP 3,156,240.

That’s a difference of PHP 1,271,350, or roughly 40% less based on VinFast’s calculation.

The actual difference will depend on factors such as driving distance, electricity and fuel prices, financing terms, maintenance costs and how long the vehicle is kept. The calculator is therefore better viewed as a way to compare different ownership scenarios rather than a guarantee of actual savings.

VinFast’s launch comes as fuel prices continue to be a concern for Filipino motorists. The company cited a recent consumer study by Agile Data Solutions Inc. which found that one in six Filipinos is considering an EV or hybrid vehicle, with rising transportation and fuel costs among the factors influencing their decisions.

The company also pointed to the difference between electricity and gasoline prices in the Philippines. Based on its cited 2026 estimates, electricity costs around PHP 12 per kWh, while gasoline is around PHP 65 per liter.

Those figures can make a significant difference for drivers covering high monthly mileage, although actual energy costs will vary depending on the vehicle, driving conditions, electricity rates and fuel prices.

VinFast currently ranks as the top-selling BEV brand in the Philippines from March to June 2026 based on CAMPI-TMA data cited by the company.

With the TCO Calculator, VinFast is giving potential buyers a way to run the numbers themselves before making a purchase. For shoppers considering an EV, that could make the ownership-cost question a little easier to answer.
