Driver misses exit, reverses on Skyway; LTO issues SCO
LTO comes after driver who reversed and counterflowed on Skyway
If there’s one thing any driver with common sense should know, it’s that stopping in the middle of a high-speed expressway is extremely dangerous and could trigger a multi-vehicle collision, potentially resulting in multiple casualties.
Now, reversing on a high-speed expressway because you missed your exit takes things to another level, and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is making it clear that this kind of driving will not be taken lightly.
The agency recently issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) to the driver of a black Hyundai sedan after a video showing the vehicle making a dangerous maneuver went viral on social media. The video was posted by the Camote Club PH Facebook page.
“Walang lugar sa ating mga kalsada ang mapanganib at iresponsableng pagmamaneho. Ang pag-counterflow, pagtawid sa solid white line, at pagmamaniobra nang walang wastong signal ay hindi lamang paglabag sa batas, kundi isang seryosong banta sa buhay at kaligtasan ng ibang motorista,” said LTO Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao.
(There is no place on our roads for dangerous and irresponsible driving. Counterflowing, crossing a solid white line, and maneuvering without the proper signal are not only violations of the law, but also a serious threat to the lives and safety of other motorists.)

The video shows the sedan traveling in the second lane toward the Alabang-Zapote Road exit before suddenly stopping, reversing (which effectively made it counterflow against traffic), and maneuvering to the right. It then crossed a solid white line and proceeded toward Calamba and the SLEX off-ramp of Skyway.
The LTO investigation led to the identification of the driver and registered owner, prompting the agency to issue an SCO against them.
Both were ordered to appear before the Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) on the scheduled hearing date. They must submit the required documents and sworn statements and explain why they should not be held liable for the alleged violations of Reckless Driving and Signals on Starting, Stopping or Turning.
The driver was also ordered to explain why his driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle, in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
He was further ordered to immediately surrender his driver’s license and will be placed under a 90-day preventive suspension while the investigation is ongoing.
The LTO also placed an alarm on the records of two vehicles registered under the name of the involved registered owner. This prevents transactions involving the vehicles, including registration and renewal, until the case is fully resolved.
The LTO said it will continue to intensify enforcement against motorists who make dangerous maneuvers and put the lives and safety of other road users at risk.
